DISCOVERY PARK

Public BBQ

Discovery Park earns its "Pirate Park" nickname honestly, with a magnificent ship-themed playground that would make Blackbeard weep with envy. The centrepiece vessel boasts barrels, nets, slides, and treasure maps that spark young imaginations, though one suspects the designers forgot pirates preferred shade to scorching decks. The facility strikes a practical balance - several covered tables with BBQ facilities anchor family gatherings, while the playground caters to various ages, though toddlers might find themselves briefly entertained before seeking new adventures. Weekend bike rides here reveal a well-maintained space that hosts regular children's parties, testament to its family appeal. The park's Achilles' heel proves predictably Australian: insufficient shade leaves slides too hot for afternoon play and grounds uncomfortably warm underfoot. More shelter over play areas would transform this from good to exceptional. Still, with adequate covered seating and that glorious pirate ship, it delivers a solid family outing - just pack the sunscreen and arrive early.
